A choreography-based hip hop dance competition and showcase that brings together studios and independent crews from all age divisions. ICONIC COMPETITION & SHOWCASE GUIDELINES

ICONIC is a unique event that brings together a group dance competition and a non-competitive showcase in one unforgettable experience! While we aim to inspire all performers, we also uphold an expectation for quality performances in both the competition and showcase.

ICONIC COMPETITION

Open to studios and independent groups
Registration fee required
Competitive divisions include trio, small, large and production
Competitive “Hip Hop” styles includes: foundation, street styles and choreography based hip hop
Music lyrics should be acceptable to all age groups. No explicit lyrics allowed or overly sexual content

ICONIC SHOWCASE

Open to studios and independent groups
No fee to perform
Dancers may perform in multiple showcase pieces
Music should be 4:00 minutes or less
No restrictions on age or group size
Hip hop choreography is the preferred genre
Music lyrics should be acceptable to all age groups. No explicit lyrics allowed or overly sexual content.

STANDARD

September 14 - February 21:

Trio: $75 per dancer
Small: $70 per dancer
Large: $65 per dancer
Production: $60

LATE

February 22 - March 22:

Trio: $80 per dancer
Small: $75 per dancer
Large: $70 per dancer
Production: $65

PAYMENT

Make one payment for each group. Payment must be made through our online portal. All major credit cards are accepted.
Registrations are not final until full payment is received. Registration will close 14 days prior to the competition.

AGE GROUPS

A group's age is based off the average age of the group. Average age is calculated by adding ages of all dancers in a group, then divide by the number of dancers in the group. A dancer's age is based on the age at the time of the event.

5 - 8: Mini
9-12: Youth
13-16 : Teen
17+: Senior

AWARDS

Trophies & Medals:

Trophies will be given to 1st place in each category.
One trophy will be given to the highest overall score of the competition.
Medals will be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd places in each category.

Cash Awards:

Awards will only be available to 1st place in each category that meet the following criteria.

There must be *3+ groups competing in the same category and age group.
100% of the cash ward will be given to winning groups if their score is equal to or greater then 275. Winning scores less than 275 will receive 75% of the cash award.

Trio Group $300
Small Group $650
Large Group $1000
Production $1500

*An exception may be made if there are only 2 groups competing.

JUDICATION

Three judges can score up to 100 points per group. Highest score possible per group is 300

Technique: 20 pts
Demonstrates strong execution of movement with proper body control, precision, balance, timing, musicality, and clean transitions.
Hip Hop Foundation: 20 pts
Displays an authentic understanding and application of hip-hop fundamentals, including grooves, bounce, rock, rhythm, and respect for the culture and foundational styles.
Performance: 25 pts
Engages the audience through confidence, energy, stage presence, emotion, character, and commitment to the choreography from beginning to end.
Choreography: 25 pts
Showcases creativity, originality, musical interpretation, effective use of formations, dynamics, transitions, and overall composition that tells a cohesive story or concept.
Appearance: 10 pts
Presents a polished and professional look through appropriate costuming, grooming, and visual presentation that enhances the performance without distracting from it.

Routines must be age appropriate. If judges deem routine inappropriate, a point deduction of -5 points or disqualification may occur.

Tie breaker is determined by technique and foundation scores, then by performance score, and then by choreography score.

MUSIC

All music must be clean, edited, and appropriate for audiences of all ages.

Upload music in the registration portal.
Double check to ensure the correct song and the music level is sufficient.
Music must be uploaded 7 days prior to the event and submitted as .mp3, .m4a.
We recommend having a back copy available on a jump drive.

Max Times:
2:30 min - Trio Group
4:00 min - Small Group
4:30 min - Large Group
5:00 min - Production Group

PROPS

No dangerous props such as fire, swords, guns, sparklers, etc. No live animals or water. Use of any of the items above may result in disqualification. Groups are responsible for removing props that were used for their performance.

CHANGES

For performance changes such as adding or removing dancers, request must be made to Friday Night Hip Hop in writing.

FINE PRINT

General lifts are permitted.
Decisions by judges are final.
There will be reserved seating for teachers with competing numbers.
No Refunds. No Exceptions.
Friday Night Hip Hop Reserves the right to images and videos taken at the show.
