ICONIC Competition & Showcase

A choreography-based hip hop dance competition and showcase that brings together studios and independent crews from all age divisions. CAMERON LEE

Cameron was the assistant choreographer and dancer with Andre Fuentes for Taiwanese pop artist Zhang Hui Mei (AMEI). He then choreographed her Utopia World Tour along with Danielle Polanco and various music videos. He was a choreographer and movement coach for Paula Abdul on her “Forever Your Girl” Las Vegas residency in 2019. Cameron has choreographed and taught globally in places such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Australia, Argentina, Guam, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Peru, Japan, Russia, the UK, and throughout the U.S.

JOJO DIGGS

JoJo Diggs is a spiritually rooted dancer, teacher, and community builder. Since 2002, she has connected mental wellness and movement while teaching and performing in over 30 countries. JoJo performed with the Jabbawockeez in Las Vegas for three years, choreographed for So You Think You Can Dance, and holds freestyle battle wins in six categories. She continues to share her passion for House, Hip Hop, and healing movement through teaching and community work around the world.

Isaiah was born and raised in Seattle, WA, Isaiah’s love for performance art and travel has allowed him to see the world through a more artistic lens. By connecting his experiences through music, art, life, and movement, he has had the opportunity to create for major brands such as Ubisoft Just Dance, Porsche, Adidas, Nike, Skoda, and Ed Hardy.

From China to Thailand, Korea, Hawaii, and studios across the United States, Isaiah has been able to teach, connect, and build community with dancers all around the world.

ICONIC COMPETITION & SHOWCASE RULES & GUIDELINES

ICONIC is a unique event that brings together a group dance competition and a non-competitive showcase in one unforgettable experience! While we aim to inspire all performers, we also uphold an expectation for quality performances in both the competition and showcase.


GUIDELINES

ICONIC COMPETITION

  • Open to studios and independent groups

  • Registration fee required

  • Competitive divisions include trio, small and large groups

  • Competitive “Hip Hop” styles includes: street dance styles and choreography based hip hop

  • Music lyrics should be acceptable to all age groups. No explicit lyrics allowed or overly sexual content

  • See Competition Rules below

ICONIC SHOWCASE

  • Open to studios and independent groups

  • No fee to perform

  • Dancers may perform in multiple showcase pieces

  • Music must be 4:00 minutes or less

  • No restrictions on age or group size

  • Hip hop choreography is the preferred genre but there are no restrictions on the genre

  • Music lyrics should be acceptable to all age groups. No explicit lyrics allowed or overly sexual content.


COMPETITION RULES

CATEGORIES

Dancers may enter into multiple categories, but are not allowed to compete against themselves in the same category and age group.

  • Trio: 3 dancers

  • Small: 5 - 9 dancers

  • Large: 10 - 15 dancers


There must be 2 or more groups in a category. If there is only one group in a category the group will be reassigned as showcase piece.

REGISTRATION

EARLY:

  • Trio: $65 per dancer

  • Small: $60 per dancer

  • Large: $55 per dancer

STANDARD:

  • Trio: $70 per dancer

  • Small: $65 per dancer

  • Large: $60 per dancer

LATE:

  • Trio: $75 per dancer

  • Small: $70 per dancer

  • Large: $65 per dancer

PAYMENT

  • Make one payment for each group. Payment must be made through our online portal. All major credit cards are accepted.

  • Registrations are not final until full payment is received. Registration will close 14 days prior to the competition.

AGE GROUPS

A group's age is based off the average age of the group. Average age is calculated by adding ages of all dancers in a group, then divide by the number of dancers in the group. A dancer's age is based on the age at the time of the event.

  • 5 - 8: Mini

  • 9-12: Youth

  • 13-16 : Teen

  • 17+: Senior


AWARDS

Medals will be given to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place groups with the highest scores in each category, and highest overall score award.

Cash Award Payout Criteria:

1)  Is only paid to 1st place in each category that meets the following criteria.  

2) There must be 3+ groups competing in the same category and same age group.

3) The winning group's score must be greater than 285

Cash Prizes:

  • Trio Group $260

  • Small Group $640

  • Large Group $1000

Cash prizes awards are subject to change.

JUDICATION

Three judges can score up to 100 points per group. Highest score from all judges is 300 points.

  • Technique & Foundation: 30 pts

  • Performance: 30 pts

  • Choreography: 30 pts

  • Appearance: 10 pts

Routines must be age appropriate. If judges deem routine inappropriate, a point deduction of 5 points or disqualification may occur.

Tie Breaker: Determined first by technique / foundation score, second by performance score, third by choreography score and then final judge's poll.

MUSIC

All music must be clean, edited, and appropriate for audiences of all ages.

  • Upload music in the registration portal.

  • Double check to ensure the correct song and the music level is sufficient.

  • Music must be uploaded 7 days prior to the event and submitted as .mp3, .m4a.

  • We recommend having a back copy available on a jump drive.


    Max Times:

  • 2:30 min - Trio Group

  • 3:30 min - Small Group

  • 4:00 min - Large Group


PROPS

No dangerous props such as fire, swords, guns, sparklers, etc. No live animals or water. Use of any of the items above may result in disqualification.

CHANGES

For performance changes such as adding or removing dancers, request must be made to Friday Night Hip Hop in writing.

FINE PRINT

  • General lifts are permitted.

  • Decisions by judges are final.

  • There will be reserved seating for teachers with competing numbers.

  • No Refunds. No Exceptions.

  • Friday Night Hip Hop Reserves the right to images taken at the show.
