Up & Coming Choreographer Shaila Nicole Lyons
Specialty: Hip Hop
Studio: Payettes School of Dance
I was fortunate to meet Shaila at The Bite of Seattle over the summer. She was there with her studio kids preparing for their performances. In speaking to her, it was clear she was passionate about her kids and hip hop! I was able to see her young hip hop squads perform while I was there, and all of them did a great job! She told me that this was their first year of competitive hip hop for the dancers and that the kids were very excited and having a great time. Shaila also performed her hip hop solo. I was very impressed with the routine. She showed her musicality, power, grace and her love for performing! She is a very talented young lady and is someone to watch as she continues to grow! This summer Shaila took the hip hop team to the Spotlight National Competition. She said it was an awesome experience for her and the kids, and the kids absolutely loved it! They are excited to begin work on the upcoming dance season. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Shaila, both as a teacher, an artist and friend.
When I turned 14 I auditioned for my high school competition cheer squad (Franklin Pierce) and made varsity. Cheer became a very large part of my life through my four years of high school. Throughout that time I was asked to help choreographed dances for my squad and other squads as well. When I turned 16 I auditioned and became a member of NCAA all-star cheer squad. I am currently teaching at Payette’s School of Dance and dancing for a group that is not yet named, (which we are also looking for more passionate, and reliable dancers.) At the young age of 19 I have accomplished a lot, and I realize I have a long road ahead of me, but I am definitely determined to take my style hip hop to other places and inspire many dancers.
